Weddings at Shortmead

Shortmead is an elegant manor house, with its origins in the 16th century and set in 24 acres of grounds. Located in Bedfordshire, it is one of Biggleswade’s best kept secrets. In a tranquil setting with open vistas and positioned on the outskirts of the town, yet the house is conveniently located just off the A1 motorway and close to a mainline railway station.

Education, restoration and conservation in action

Last century Shortmead House stood in five acres of wooded overgrown land. A matted undergrowth of weeds choked any previous domestic planting, the half-acre lake was a muddy puddle and the orchard and kitchen gardens were very neglected. Now just 12 years on and covering 24 acres the site has been transformed into a beautiful habitat for wildlife and a valuable educational resource. Why not become a member of the Friends of Shortmead and support Shortmead and all the work we do in restoration and conservation of the site.
